Ngu Xa and Nguyen Khac Hieu Street is a vibrant area running through the centre of Dao Ngoc - Ngu Xa, an islet on Truc Bach Lake in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh district. The area is known for its lively food culture, particularly as the birthplace of phở cuốn, or "pho rolls," a dish that originated when a local restaurant ran out of pho broth and instead rolled the pho noodles with beef and herbs, serving it with a sweet-sour dipping sauce.
In collaboration with the People’s Committee of Ba Đình District in Hanoi, our concept for the night-time food and pedestrian zone includes a welcome arch at the entrance to the island, as well as colourful fabric and lights installations throughout the pedestrianised area. The concept behind the transformation stems from the island's unique location over Truc Bach Lake, inspired by the gentle ripples of the water that surround it, reflecting the local identity.
The bold, colourful choices enhance the aesthetic and social atmosphere, making spaces more vibrant and inclusive, boosting tourism, supporting the local business and area’s economy. We hope to transform these spaces into engaging, interactive areas, as the area also hosts cultural events, with vibrant street art, mural walls, installations, and street performances.
